ohgodno - the use of the apostrophe is grammar, not punctuation.

I'd also like to say that Fowler's Modern English Usage is your friend here. Authoritative and not in the least snobbish. Hear what he has to say about split infinitives, for instance.

But spent last Summer 28 days at Cambridge on an intensive Grammar course which was hard as have not studied in 30 years.

And due to work have all the Cambridge press grammar in use collection.

9/10 for me too - they say I'm wrong about "Jesus's" but refer only to a "style guide", not to a grammar text.

It's true that whether you put an apostrophe s, or just an apostrophe, after a singular proper noun ending in s is a question of style. It's what sounds best, which depends on the sound or length of the noun. Example : "Johnny Sissons' corner kicks" sounds better than "Johnny Sissons's corner kicks" because of the overuse of sibilants in the latter. Whereas "Phil Parkes's penalty save" is preferable to "Phil Parkes' penalty save" because the meaning is clearer without requiring a tongue twister.

Punctuation not grammar. Publicly caring about either is a Gavros-style red flag.
